While News Release Basketball is often most known for our summer tours, we do long-term ministry as well and it is equally as important. Here are some of the long-term mission strategies we currently have in effect all around the globe.
LONG-TERM MISSIONs opportunities
PARTNERING with local missions, churches, and fellow Christians
We seek to partner with existing missions, missionaries, churches and church workers in our host cities. We welcome partners’ involvement with our direct outreach, and we seek to be willing servants in any way we can help their outreach efforts. We also work with a News Release Basketball service team; a team of Europeans who have been so positively impacted by the Lords work in their life through this ministry that they desire further involvement and service opportunities. -- In all projects, joint programming is an ideal situation for us. By doing this we associate News Release Basketball with the people who are available year-round. Therefore, the people who have been positively affected by our presence still have a place to go and someone to build a relationship with when it comes time for us to leave.
PLACING Christian players as professionals and youth workers
The ministry of News Release Basketball greatly benefits from having workers overseas year-round. Not only do these people make scheduling arrangements and adjustments for the summer basketball tours, but by living in the European culture, they are able to be involved in local outreach and service, as well as training others for ministry. They are expected to look for and create ministry opportunities by personally sharing their faith, serving with partners, mentoring Hoop Groups, and being a support for placed players. Our presence also includes the development, training and utilization of local believers who are on board with our mission and vision. Most of these have grown up in contact with and influenced by the News Release Basketball tour ministry.
PLANTING Bible Studies (“Hoop Groups”)
We have noticed among our camp participants that there is an interest to continue worship and contact with News Release Basketball even after we are gone. In places where there are no partnering opportunities, we encourage those people to meet together during the year. In doing so we are planting seeds, the foundations for a fellowship group or even a church. We encourage initiative and leadership among those people, and encourage consistent meeting for worship, prayer and study. We will provide materials, ideas, and prayerful support during the year as we keep in contact with them. This initiative can be called a “Hoop Group”, a small group formed from contact at a News Release Basketball camp, but more deeply founded in Christ’s love and desire for growth and fellowship.
